There are many ways of casting and the most common methods include sand casting, lost wax casting and die casting.
I.The difference of sand casting, lost wax casting and die casting.
Sand casting is the use of various sand molds for casting, commonly include gypsum sand mold, water glass sand mold, resin sand mold, etc,By injecting melt casting metal into the sand mold,Then wait for the casting parts to cool and solidify, and get it from the sand mold.
The surface of sand cast finished products is relatively rough, but the cost is lower, making it suitable for producing parts with complex shapes and small batches.
Lost wax casting(Our technique):Lost wax casting is a technique of pouring molten metal into a mold and cooling it to get parts with a certain shape and accuracy. It Can produce parts with complex shapes, high precision, and high surface quality, meanwhile multiple materials can also be used for casting. However, this technology requires consumable material and complex manufacturing processes, resulting in longer costs and development time.
Die casting is a technology that uses a die casting machine to press liquid alloys such as aluminum and copper into a mold for cooling and solidification, forming various shapes. It is efficient and can make mass production,Mold manufacturing and operation are simple, with relatively low costs. But the biggest drawback of die casting is that it is only suitable for parts with similar shapes, and its manufacturing process easy to have pores and defects.
II.The difference between lost wax casting water glass technique and silicon sol technique
- The surface quality of the mold shell is different,The mold surface produced by silica sol casting has good smoothness, higher dimensional accuracy, and does not require secondary processing. The surface quality of the water glass process mold is ordinary, the dimensional accuracy is not high, and the casting parts yield is low.
- Dry hardening is different. Water glass requires hardening agents such as ammonium chloride, while silica sol shell molds can dry and harden in a constant temperature and humidity space.
- The applied products are different. The silica sol process is mainly used for small products, mainly for high alloy steel and stainless steel products. The products made by water glass technology are relatively larger and mainly used for carbon steel and low alloy cast steel parts.
- Costs vary. The cost of silica sol process is high and the production circle is long. Water glass is relatively inexpensive and has a short production circle.
These two techniques both belongs to lost wax precision casting. The difference lies in the different adhesives used in the shell making process,so that the surface quality of the mold shell produced is different. The wax of water glass is softer, while the wax of silica sol is harder.
